Single Release July 31, 2026 - “Here in California” was co-written with Austin Asvanonda (The War on Drugs’ Grammy‑winning A Deeper Understanding). The two were mixing Welch’s track “Floating in Space” when Asvanonda started strumming and singing the line “Julie is an actress” — Welch picked up the thread, writing a verse about a woman hitting rock bottom but refusing to go back to Oklahoma. The song grew into a set of character sketches about creatives who keep dreaming when it’s hard, closing with Welch’s own story of pushing forward without letting bitterness win
